Monument record 8879/1 - Probable Iron Age/Roman settlement, south of Oakley Bushes
Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Geophysical survey identified a 'washing line' type settlement with sub-rectangular and sub-circular anomalies that are appended to a discontinous linear anomaly. These are corroborated by the cropmarks found on aerial photographs of the area.

Full Description
{1} Four small Iron Age/Roman rectilinear enclosures, two of which are conjoined, are visible as cropmarks on air photographs, at SP 8824 8432. An associated field boundary is also visible.
{2} Geophysical survey detected a discountinuous linear anomaly that extends for approximately 730m north-northeast/south-southwest. The anomaly has been interpreted to be a ditch that acts as a washing line type settlement with clusters of sub-circular and sub-rectangular enclosures appended to it. The route of a possible Roman Road cuts across this area but there is no evidence of this feature in the data.
