The degraded and incomplete earthworks of a possible medieval moat can be seen on aerial photographs and lidar south of the village. This earthwork describes an L-shape and may have formed two sides of a moat.

Full Description
{1-2} The degraded and incomplete earthworks of a possible medieval moat can be seen on HE Reconnaissance aerial photographs taken on 4th November 2013. This earthwork, which is also visible on Environment Agency lidar, describes an L-shape and may have formed two sides of a moat. The south-west side is approximately 70m long, the south-east side 50m. The original cutting may have been between 10m-20m wide. This earthwork is located to the east of the present village at SP 8637 7443. This is one of a number of earthworks representing settlement shrinkage in Pytchley.
