Full Description
{1} Welford House is a large Victorian house built in 1872 and extended between 1908 and 1914. It may have been during this latter period that its gardens were redesigned in the style of Gertrude Jekyll. It has retained many elements of its original design. It is built of red brick with detailing in London brick and sandstone. This includes a London brick string course between the first and second floors and stone window surrounds. It displays some features of classical architecture including pilasters either side of the doorway supporting the architrave with a cornice above, as well as a pediment over a projecting wing to the right of the entrance.
