Full Description

{1} The building is constructed of ironstone, its gable end faces the road, with on the left large double doors surmounted by a large fanlight and, on the right, a large cast-iron framed rectangular window of six lights high and six lights across. Behind is an area of about 18 feet square, extending to an arch spanning the whole width. This probably was the extent of the original blacksmith's forge. Beyond the arch the space continues for about a further 9 feet. On the north side of this appears to have been the hearth, although the chimney has been removed from above the slate roof. Thomas Coleman was the blacksmith here in 1841. His son William took over the premises as an agricultural implement maker. Later only blacksmithing was carried out here.
