Full Description

{1} Building recording survey was undertaken prior to conversion of the building to residential use. The barn is a stone-built structure of four bays constructed from roughly squared, coursed limestone with a corrugated asbestos roof. The barn originally had large opposing doorways in the east and west elevations (that in the east elevation has since been blocked) indicating that it may have been used for threshing, although it is small in comparison to other known examples. Rectangular ventilation slits are also present on the north and south elevations just below the gable. Extending from the north end of the barn is a three-bay agricultural building, currently used as stables. The west and north walls and roof of the stables are of similar construction to the barn: on the east side the walls are mostly of stock brick, laid with cement mortar.
Internally the there is a row of five cast-iron columns which were for six loose boxes. The columns with their brackets and other fittings are expensive, high-quality fittings and may have been salvaged from the stables of a nearby country house. The three-bay building still retains three loose-boxes.
