Full Description

{1}The first owner of the quarry was J.W.Pain and the nominal operator was Northamptonshire Ironstone Co. Production started in May 1915. Ownership was then taken over by the Northamptonshire Ironstone Co Ltd from March 1922 and then by the Byfield Ironstone Co. Ltd from 24.11.1928 until the 12th february 1965 when quarrying ceased. The last face being used was at the Iron Cross face. The only part still visible is this last part that was worked. The remainder has been filled in and apart from a few sunken fieldslittle can be seen.
