Full Description

{1} Second quarry owned by G.E.Bevan Co.Ltd. Was commenced when first quarry had run out of ore; not known when first quarry ceased to operate but tramway is not shown on 1900 OS map; on 10th April 1899 Bevan's applied to Grand Junction Canal to place an ironstone landing in canal about 10ft long & projecting some 5ft into waterway; this allowed ore to be tipped directly into barges for onward transport to furnaces; quarry was taken over byExors of Pickering Phipps from 1901 but did not last long & seemed to have been closed just before WWI.
