Full Description

{1} The trench on the north side of the chancel produced a series of medieval skeletons, undisturbed by burials later than about 1500. The earliest and deepest skeletons were placed in graves cut into the subsoil and covered with organic material; some had stone slabs placed around and over them, and one grave had a posthole near the skull that presumably represents a marker or cross.

{3} Archaeological evaluation was undertaken prior to the construction of a two-storey extension on the north side of the chancel. The test pits revealed the foundations of the medieval chancel and a prone inhumation. Both the foundations and the inhumation appear to have been partially disturbed by the earlier excavations.
