Full Description

{1} A single shaft-furnace and a channel-hearth were found some 200m south-west of the main concentration of furnaces at Site 4. Only part of the clay shaft of the furnace survived but two phases of construction were apparent. An adjacent slag-tapping channel was located to the south. Tag slag and ash were found in situ at the bottom of the channel together with several sherds of Roman greyware.
