Early production was commenced in 1873 and was tied up with the erection of the Towcester Blast Furnaces in 1875. The early production was carried out on the Easton Neston side of the Northampton to Towcester road with a tramway taking the ore from the site to the Northampton and Banbury Junction line. In 1908 the quarry was extended and a new Quarry was started on the Tiffield side of the main road. The quarries were extremely busy during WWI but due to the postwar depression in the iron ore industry were closed in 1920.
