Full Description

{1} Owners from 1914 J.W.Pain, from c1915 Whiston Ironstone Co., from 27th December 1917 Bloxham & Whiston Ironstone Co.Ltd., from 25th March 1919 Whiston Ironstone Co.Ltd., until closure in 1922. These working adjoin the most easterly workings of the Cogenhoe Quarry. The quarry was served by a standard guage line to the LNWR line 1mile away. The quarry being some 40ft deep. It covered a face of 600yards long working westwards across the spur of the high ground. The overburden being removed by a steam digger. All other operations were by hand and the ore sold in a raw state.
