Summary

A World War Two Air Ministry pattern pillbox at Polebrook airfield. The pillbox was probably built in 1940-1941 (The airfield opened in 1941, construction began in 1940). It is a hexagonal concrete structure with a brick protected entrance and seven embrasures. The pillbox is situated close to the site of one of the runways of the former military airfield.

Full Description

{1} Hexagonal shape pillbox [Air Ministry pattern], with 7 embrasures. It has double-banked embrasures on two sides. Door entrance has brick protection area. Very close to the site of the runway, some of the broken-up concrete of which has been placed on the pillbox roof.On Polebrook Airfield, about a quarter of a mile past the airfield memorial, in field to side of site of runway. When the pillbox was visited in 1997 it was said to be in fair condition. Two locations given: TL 086 861 or TL 095 865
