Full Description

{1} The archetypal K6 was designed by Giles Gilbert Scott (Battersea Power Station and Liverpool Cathedral) in 1935 to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of King George V. The K6 is made of cast iron, painted red overall with long horizontal glazing in door and sides and with crowns situated on the top panels being applied not perforated.

Intact examples of K6 telephone kiosks will normally be assessed on the basis of group value and a strong visual relationship with other listed buildings and the setting. To be listable, a telephone kiosk needs to have a strong visual relationship with more than one listed building.

In this case there are several listed buildings in the vicinity of the Green on which the telephone kiosk stands but the required visual relationship is not strong.

This telephone kiosk therefore unfortunately lacks the special architectural or historic interest in a national context, required to fulfil the criteria for listing.
