Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
A small boot and shoe factory is detached to the rear of 20 Bridge Street. Built in the 1870s it is a three storeyed factory of five by two bays. The northernmost bay is longer than the others. On the east front the windows have segmental arches formed from a single row of alternating orange and blue headers. At the north end a doorway has been inserted probably replacing an original entrance covered by a later lean too.To the north again there is a two storey building possibly a warehouse. the north wall is of coursed rubble but the building is otherwise of brick construction. On the south front there is a wide original entrance at the east end and two windows further west; on the first there is a single window. On the east gable there is a single window or taking-in doorway on each floor. The upper part of the walls have been rebuilt and are now topped by a monopitch roof of corrugated iron.Documentary references suggest that the factory and warehouse began in the same occupancy as No.18 but passed latterly to No.20 the two plots being now consolidated to its rear.
