Summary

The brewery was built in 1971-1973 on the site of Phipps Bridge Street Brewery and opened in 1974 by Princess Benedikte of Denmark. The architect was Knud Munk, with Ove Arup and Partners as the engineers. The building profile follows the heights of the various pieces of equipment involved in the process. The concrete and steel brewhouse has a stepped glass wall through which its plant may be seen. The brewhouse and adjoining energy centre front a long, low shed to the rear, containing the fermenting hall, bottling plant and stores. The internal layout follows the brewing process in a linear fashion, starting at the south and finishing at the northern end with the bottling plant. The building won the Financial Times Award for Industrial Architecture in 1975.

{1-3} The lager brewery was built in 1971-1973 on the site of Phipps Bridge Street Brewery and opened in 1974 by Princess Benedikte of Denmark. The architect was Knud Munk, with Ove Arup and Partners as the engineers. The building was inspired by a Danish longship.

The building profile follows the heights of the various pieces of equipment involved in the process. The concrete and steel brewhouse has a stepped glass wall through which its plant may be seen. The brewhouse and adjoining energy centre front a long, low shed to the rear, containing the fermenting hall, bottling plant and stores. The internal layout follows the brewing process in a linear fashion, starting at the south and finishing at the northern end with the bottling plant. The building won the Financial Times Award for Industrial Architecture in 1975.
