Monument record 820/2 - Probable Iron Age settlement, east of Jack's Copse

Archaeological investigation has identified an Iron Age roundhouse. A possible enclosure was also identified. The features are located some distance south of a larger area of settlement.

{2} Trial trench excavation identified both sides of an Iron Age roundhouse ring ditch. Iron Age pottery and animal bone were recovered from the ditch fills, as well as a large amount of stone which may derive from either an internal or external bank. To the north was the corner of a possible enclosure ditch the fill of which also contained Iron Age pottery. While the ring ditch was clearly visible on the earlier geophysical survey results, the possible enclosure was not.
