Full Description

{1} A stone fragment carved with human or animal forms; possibly part of a Romanesque lintel set on end; set into the internal face of the north wall of the north aisle.

{2} (SP 73796179) In the churcyard of St Michael's church, close to the eastern corner of the south aisle, is the upper step of the old cross. This stone supports a cast-iron monument; and probably covers the old socket, and possibly also the stump of the cross.

{3} Find of a possible Saxon decorated cross fragment; sculpted with figures; found in north aisle of church (3);

{4} Find of the upper step of an old cross; supposed to be a churchyard cross but possibly not an antiquity; in the north aisle of St Michael's Church, Dallington SP73796179; [NB Dallington Church is dedicated to St Mary!]

{5} The opinion that the stone is part of a cross is pure conjecture. It seems much too thin to have ever been a socket stone. The cast iron is now broken but the inside is still concealed.
