Full Description

{1} Owners from 1913 Keeble & Jellett, from 1.10.1914 R.E.Campbell, from 9.11.1915 Ebbw Vale Steel,Iron & Coal Co.Ltd., until closure in 1921. This site is in the area of Finedon Hall which was sold to Keeble & Jellett in 1912, at the southeastern fringe. This quarry was the first in the county to be opened by South Wales Quarrymen in search of blackband ironstone of the type used in that area. Their own being exhausted in the middle of the 19th century. The pits were kept open during the W.W.I.era but the ore was of poor quality and they were closed in 1921. Plan of quarries on p.149.
