Summary

The XL works is a boot and shoe factory that appears to have been built in the late 1890s adjacent to the earlier Glendon Engine Works, which also survives. It stands on the north side of Sackville Street and consists of a three storeyed range of five pier and panel bays and to its west a two storeyed range of three and a half bays. The brickwork is continuous between the two ranges.
