Full Description
{1} Owners from 1st April 1873 Thomas Whitehouse, from 1875 Thrapston Iron Ore Co.Ltd., from 1879 Butlin Bevan & Co.Ltd., until their closure in 1885. A total of 47 acres of an area bounding the LNWR Northampton to Peterborough line to the south and the Ditchford Road to the west were leased to Whitehouse (coal merchant) for 14 years from 1.4.1873. The quarries were closed in 1885. There are no details of the equipment used on the site nor are there recognisable traces of the outcrop site. The 6in OS of 1884 shows a worked out section to the west of the tramway: as the quarries were closed in 1885 the alignment was probably the final one, working having commences at the western side.
