Full Description

{1} Based on analysis of the building's frontage judged to be of mid-late 19th century date.

{2} Building recording survey undertaken prior to the demolition of the former public house. Survey of the building revealed that it had been modified in the late 19th/early 20th centuries but that its core was of a much earlier date. It may have originated as a 2-bay, two storeyed, stone-built house with central chimney. The absence of a cellar suggests that it was not designed for the public consumption of ale. A fireplace lintel with decorated chamfer stops, if in situ, would push the date of the building back to the 17th century. The building is depicted on a map of 1802 occupying the same footprint as at present. The front elevation was modified in the Victorian period; the decorative carved barge board is near-identical to that of the neighbouring property to the south and this is dated to c1897. It was again modified in the 1920s with the installation of ground floor bay windows and integrated porch.
