Full Description

{1}Owners Newbridge Iron Ore Co. from 10th December 1873 to prior to 1884. This quarry is an extension of the Addington quarries and only gets the name of Ringstead from the point where the ore was loaded onto LNWR wagons at Ringstead Station. The original holders of the lease were Appleby & Co proprietors of Renishaw Ironworks near Chesterfield. It has been established that the point of transfer to the LNWR was the same as used by Addington Quarry owned by Thomas Walters who was connected with Newbridge Iron Ore Co a subsiduary of Appleby & Co. Indications show that quarrying took place in a field to the west of Glebe Farm alias Rectory Farm and the site could still be seen in 1987, the swaythe in the land west of the farm buildings and more tellingly two dips in front of the hedge where the ironstone face came close to the field edge. Closure of the quarry took place sometime prior to 1884.
