Full Description
{1} Owners from 1912 G Keeble & E.M.Jellett, from 1st October 1914, from 9th November 1915 Ebbw Vale Steel,Iron & Coal Co.Ltd and from 1936 until closure in the same year Richard Thomas & Co.Ltd. In 1912 Keeble & Jellett prospected for ore sites in the area with a view to opening up suitable quarries. One such was an area in Denford, north of Ham Lane and just east of the LNWR Northampton to Peterborough line. The main workings were about a third of a mile west of Denford on flattish ground near to the River Nene. Quarrying commenced in 1913. When Ebbw Vale took over they did more prospecting, driving a gullet some six hundred yards long but the ore was of poor quality and the worked soon stopped in 1917/18. Richard Thomas acquired the land in 1936 but no further working occurred.
