Full Description

{1} Owners from 1925 Thomas E.Gray & Co.Ltd., until closure in May 1982. This quarry was opened on the site of the old ironstone quarry but this time quarrying was for ganister, a silica sand used for furnace lining. Gray's main business was in dealing with the ganister but from time to time the removal of the sand lead to ironore being found and dealings in the ore did take place. The quarry was eventually closed in 1982.
