Full Description

{1} Owner Sir John B. Robinson, Bart from 1873 for approximately one year of working. Sir John was the owner of Cranford Hall and it was obvious from outcrop or shallow cover that there was a large amount of ironore in the area around Cranford. Early records show that in the 1870's 20,000tons of ore was being despatched from Cranford Station. It is believed that these first quarries were within the confines of Cranford Estate, to the north of Cranford St.Johns Church in Nettlebed Spinney, Sandy Spinney and a small area on the opposite of the road. These quarries are all on the estate and not included in any later leases. The output was coveyed in Dobbin Carts and pulled by horses to a weighbridge on a piece of land between the A604 and the Midland railway sidings east of Cranford Station on the north side.
