Monument record 2288/1/9 - Prehistoric cremations, Aldwincle

Please read our .

Summary

Two unurned cremations and a scatter of post holes were found sealed beneath the Roman road (RR 57a) which passes by the north-east side of Aldwincle Barrow 1 (SP 98 SE 18). The cremations and post holes are not certainly associated. Although there was no dating evidence recovered, the proximity of the barrow suggests a Bronze Age date is possible for the cremations.
