Full Description
[1} A possible Bronze Age barrow is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of Historic England’s North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project. Located within Buttockspire Wood and centred at SP 65734 41587, a circular mound about 17 metres in diameter are bounded on the NW and SE sides by arcs of boundary ditch up to 2 metres wide. The earthworks are located within woodland that formed part of the former Whittlewood medieval hunting forest and it is possible that this feature may represent medieval or post-medieval activity, perhaps associated with charcoal production.
