Full Description
{1} Three parallel linear earthwork banks of uncertain date and function is visible on remote sensing data as earthworks and was mapped as part of Historic England’s North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project. Located within Buttockspire Wood and centred at SP 65497 41534, three parallel linear banks are aligned roughly NW-SE. The western-most bank is about 10 metres wide and 200 metres long: Some 60 metres to the NE is a linear bank up to 9 metres wide and 163 metres long: and some 45 metres to the NE of that is the eastern-most bank, some 9 metres wide and 160 metres long. The earthworks are located within woodland that formed part of the former Whittlewood medieval hunting forest and it is possible that this feature may represent medieval or post-medieval wood banks.
