Monument record 7598/1 - Line of a former road on the west side of Wicken

A road of medieval/post-medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs.

{1-4} A road of medieval/post medieval date is visible on historic aerial photographs as extant cropmarks and was mapped as part of Historic England’s North Buckinghamshire Aerial Investigation and Mapping project. Located west of Wicken, Northamptonshire, and centred at SP 73872 39254. This road is visible as linear banks and ditches in 1946. Modern land use is arable and field amalgamation has removed the boundaries and earthworks present in 1946 with the road only visible as cropmarks and soilmarks. A plan of the Hosier estate survey from 1717 shows this length of road between the existing road and a road that used to run east west from the village of Wicken towards woodland at the edge of the parish.
