Monument record 638/0/150 - Sunnyside, junction of Brook Street and Braunston Road

Early 17th century house. Demolished by 1970.

{1} Recorded in 1960. House constructed of stone rubble built as a straight range probably at the beginning of the 17th century. Later in the same century the back wing was added. The south end gable was completely rebuilt in brick in modern times with a lean-to addition. Many of the original stone mullion windows had been replaced by wood-framed casements, probably in the 18th century. The ironstone walls were much decayed; the quoins were of a darker and less weathered ironstone. East front had the original doorway with moulded stone jambs and lintel and to the south an original 2-light window with modern window above. To the north 4 & 5 light 18th-century windows. The north end had 2 18th-century windows of 4lights with an original 2-light window to the roof space. The west side of the main range had 2 blocked original first floor windows each of 2 lights and a mezzanine window also original and blocked. The rear wing had an original 2-light first floor window and the gable end a 4-light original first floor window with a 2-light window in the gable above. In the south wall a 2-light window and a blocked single light under a common label, both probably from a 4-light window. Inside, the central room had an exposed moulded ceiling beam with a triple-pyramid stop. North end room had a cased beam. Ground floor fireplaces modernised. First floor centre room and back wing room had fireplaces with moulded stone jambs and head. Roof had collar beam trusses with two purlins let into the back of the principals.
