Full Description

{1} Archaeological investigation was undertaken during the excavation of foundation pits for a library extension. A ditch aligned east to west and dating to the 10th-12th centuries was identified in four of the pits. An undated ditch on a similar alignment and located 10m to the north may be contemporary. Further features included an L-shaped ditch which contained post-medieval pottery and a fragment of 20th-century glass bottle. Remnants of pits identified in three of the foundation pits were considered likely to be of post-medieval/modern origin. Post-medieval/modern structural elements included a brick wall, a stone-lined drain and concrete foundations.
