Please read our guidance about the use of Northamptonshire Historic Environment Record data.
Summary
Archaeological investigation undertaken during groundworks for a new house identified a pit containing a horse burial. Although medieval pottery was found in the pit fill, the size of the horse is more suggestive of a post-medieval date.

Full Description
{1} Archaeological watching brief undertaken during groundworks for a new house at 7 Main Street identified a burial of a young horse. Two sherds of medieval pottery and an assemblage of other bone, chicken and rodent elements were also recovered. The calculated withers height of the horse is at the upper end of the range observed for medieval horses and is much more similar to those observed in post-medieval (1550-1650) specimens, especially as the horse was not fully skeletally mature.
