Full Description
[1} Where Bridge Street crossed the former watercourse was a bridge of two arches askew to the street. The water ran from NW to SE. The north arch was about 10' wide, the pier about 3' wide and the south arch about 10' 11" wide. From the east side of the bridge the stream ran in a well-built culvert about 15' wide under St Thomas'. The portion of stream west of Bridge Street (now Weston Street) was culverted in 1837 or thereabouts. In 1877 the culvert in Weston Street and across Bridge Street was deepened and enlarged and doing that many Nuremberg tokens, coins, pins, keys and snuffboxes (?) were found. The arches under Bridge Street had been at some time altered and inverted arches placed in them.
