Full Description
{1} Geophysical survey has identified an extensive complex of anomalies in the area of Easton Maudit Roman Villa. Anomalies in the south-east of the field are likely to be the villa itself (the footings measure 87m by 40m), but it is obscured by high magnetic readings likely caused by former excavation/backfilling. Surrounding the villa are multiple, regular rectilinear enclosures or fields that are likely to be contemporary. The enclosures have a formal, planned appearance. However, there are a number of other curvilinear and subrectangular enclosures that are on differing alignments and likely to be of a different, probably earlier, date. A number of ring ditches are probably round houses and may be precursors of the villa.
