Full Description

{1} Lidar survey was undertaken along the projected course of the road between Irchester and Kettering. At Barton Seagrave it is suggested that there is stronger evidence for a road crossing of the Ise further south at Barton Road, which would support a more westerly route. The preferred route continues the orientation of the Burton Latimer ridges, towards an early Saxon cemetery, along a straight section of Polwell Lane, to the crossing of the Ise near Barton Seagrave Castle and Wicksteed Park. Certainly, there is likely to have been a river here since at least c1050 AD. Brazier's 1720 map of Kettering shows a significant linear feature on the west of the Ise called Church Headland, defined as possible route out of Roman Kettering- a faint alignment is visible on the Local Relief Model (LRM) and may be the remnants of this feature.
An extensionof the road further N?NW towards Corby has not been possible to identify using lidar data.
