Full Description
{1} In 2024, MOLA undertook geophysical survey. This survey detected a consistent line of regular, closely-spaced positive anomalies, almost certainly representing a prehistoric pit alignment. Approximately 15m south-east of this feature two opposing semi-circular positive anomalies have been detected and it is possible that these represent parts of a prehistoric ring ditch. This is a tentative suggestion however, as the anomalies are not significantly different from the surrounding natural ones, and it is only their shape and the proximity of the pit alignment which hint at an archaeological cause. West of the pit alignment there are a number of positive and negative linear anomalies which are likely to represent ditches of various dates. The most notable of these are a broadly spaced pair, roughly 70m apart, which occupy parallel north-east to south-west alignments. They are relatively weak, but persist intermittently through the full extent of the survey coverage and align with some previously unrecorded linear cropmarks on the adjacent land. They may represent no more than boundary ditches from a prehistoric or Roman field system.
