Summary

An archaeological trial trench was excavated to the east on the bus station in an area situated over 1m below the modern ground surface. Some 12th and 13th century pits and a wall foundation were found in the western part of the trench, otherwise there were no other features predating the 19th century.

Full Description

{1} An archaeological trial trench was excavated in an open area of land to the east of the Greyfriars Bus Station in 2000. The ground level was c1m below the surrounding roads and paths. A series of 12th and 13th century pits and a wall foundation were identified. Evidence of later occupation may have been lost during the 1970s development of the site. A few 19th century features were identified.
