Full Description

{1} Built in 1856 at 114, 116 and 118 Bridge Street by three Phillips brothers. By 1870 it was referred to as The Steam Brewery, becoming the Northampton Brewery Company Limited in 1887. By 1891, the brewery comprised a four-storeyed building with a stone frontage of three storeys onto Bridge Street. The maltings were a short river journey to the north as were the cask making facilities, and the finished product was transported by water across the Midlands, so wharves to the west of the brewery were in constant use. A serious fire almost gutted the building during WWI and only the stone frontage was retained.
[The site was cleared for the construction of the Carlsberg factory in the early 1970s.]
