Full Description

{1} Swanspool Pavillion was built in 1927 and opened in 1929. Designed by R.S. Henshaw as part of the Swanspool Gardens development. The pavallion occupies the former site of barns and stables associated with Swanspool House, a grade II listed building to the north and is also situated within the Swanspool Gardens. The pavallion a modest but good example of early 20th-century Neo-Georgian civic architecture, characterized by its symmetrical façade, brickwork in Flemish bond, stone dressings and a hipped cross-form roof with red ceramic tiles. The front elevation features a stepped central section with a Venetian-style window and flanking sash windows, complemented by two recessed porches. Internally, the building includes a main hall, club room, changing rooms, offices, and three basement spaces. Original features such as timber doors, sash windows, and honours boards survive, although later adaptations include ramps, modern flooring, and suspended ceilings. The pavilion has remained largely unchanged in plan since its construction
