Full Description
{1} The upper blocks of two near identical Corinthian style, more Composite, capitals carved in Wheatley limestone were discovered in Greens Norton. Both had been used as garden ornaments but are reported to have originated from the Towcester, near the corner of Richmond Road and Watling Street. The capitals were originally set against a solid wall, perhaps of a tomb. The source of the stone is from Wheatley village, some 7km east of Oxford, which had good direct access to Towcester via Alchester.
