Full Description

{1} Investigations at Versions Farm were focused upon understanding the geoarchaeological sequences with a focus on addressing HERDS objectives as set out by the Change Control. A palaeosol was found that extended down the valley side. Cut from within the palaeosol in the lowest part of the valley floor was a pit that contained worked flints. A quartz hammerstone, which was thought to be of Palaeolithic or Mesolithic date, was also recovered from the palaeosol in close proximity. Other worked flints were also found within the palaeosol, and from the overlying colluvium. In addition, during the investigations three human inhumations, pits and boundary features, and some small finds were found at a relatively high level within the colluvium, thought to be of Roman date.
