Full Description
{1} Archaeological trial trench evalaution was undertaken in 2020. Evaluation Trench 13 revealed two limestone walls, 13010 and 13015, aligned east-west and constructed from roughly shaped limestone blocks. The walls survived within construction cuts and extended beyond the trench limits, meaning neither the full plan nor dimensions of the structure could be established. To the north, demolition deposits containing abundant stone rubble may represent the collapse or deliberate dismantling of the structure. The building's function remains uncertain because only a small part was exposed. However, its masonry construction suggests a substantial structure within the surrounding Roman agricultural landscape. The report suggests it may have served a storage or shelter function associated with agricultural activity. Dating evidence is limited and consists only of two Roman pottery sherds recovered from demolition deposits.
