Full Description

{1} Hall Farm House is a prominent 18th century ironstone and red brick building on the edge of Preston Capes that is visible on the approaches to the village. The building displays a number of design features that have been retained, for example its stone door surround with triangular pediment above; the string course between the ground and first floor; and the stone gable parapets and kneelers. Forming the boundary between what is now the garden and Old Forge Lane to the north there is a high wall that is built partly of ironstone and partly of brick. The wall turns to the south and continues until it meets a group of red brick barns. This stretch is completely of dark red brick. The wall is a prominent feature as one approaches the west end of Old Forge Lane.
Hall Farm House, its boundary wall, former barns and outbuildings form a coherent group as a former complex of farm buildings. This coherence is maintained by the retention of their form, original details and use of building materials. They make an important contribution to the historic character of the west end of Old Forge Lane and the setting of the adjacent Grade II listed West Orchard Farm
