Full Description

{1} Painted advertisement on the south-west-facing gable end of the two-storey brick building at 51 Junction Road, Northampton. The rectangular sign appears to comprise black lettering on a white background and bears the partially legible inscription '[Est] 1890. PHONE [][5[0 W.[B]. MASON GROCER & DRAPER [C]OAL, COKE & WOOD MERC[H]ANT [J]OIN OUR LENDING LIBRARY'. The sign is poorly legible and survives only as faint traces of paint. The building has a tiled roof and is currently in residential use, although it formerly operated as a shop. The sign occupies approximately one-third of the width of the gable end and is visible from Shelley Road. Surviving architectural features, including a possible former shop window and evidence of alterations to the frontage, suggest the building previously accommodated commercial premises associated with the business advertised on the sign.
