Full Description
{1} Painted sign on the east-facing gable end of the two-storey brick terraced building at 4 Stanley Street. The rectangular sign occupies most of the gable end and comprises black lettering on a white background, although the background has largely faded and now appears yellowed. The partially legible inscription reads '[H.J.P]AYNE'S', '[6] BA[RR]ACK RD' and '[AT] ASH ST & OAK ST'. The sign is poorly legible and has been affected by flaking paintwork, pollution and staining. The building has a tiled roof and remains in residential use. The inscription may relate to the former H. J. Payne's business located at the corner of Ash Street and Oak Street.
