Ghost sign for S.E. Wilkinson & Son Funeral Directors at 30 Grove Road, Northampton.

{1} Painted sign on the north-facing elevation of the two-storey brick building at 30 Grove Road, Northampton. The sign comprises black lettering on a white background and bears the inscription 'S.E. WILKINSON & SON FUNERAL DIRECTORS Est. 1877. Phone. 637852'. The sign remains legible despite flaking paintwork, pollution staining and areas of surface loss. The building has a slate roof and remains in use as funeral directors' premises, reflecting its long-established function. S.E. Wilkinson & Son have occupied the building since 1877. The age of the sign is uncertain and it may have been refurbished or updated, as the six-digit telephone number suggests alterations during the late 20th century.
