Monument record 8575/1 - WWII Military Depot, Castle Ashby

The site of a World War II vehicle depot. Vehicles were stored at this site and probably camoflaged from aerial observation. The site also functioned as a replacement depot. By the time of the Defence of Britain survey the site was found to have been destroyed. The site was located in Castle Ashby.

{1} A vehicle replacement depot. Described as a very large vehicle replacement and maintenance park. (Hollow and Banks "Northants Home Guard" p92). Remembered by one person as a satellite establishment of Chilwell near Nottingham. It appears to have been adjacent to an ATS camp (8121) also in the Avenue.
