Summary

Local information suggests that the documented First World War Prisoner of War camp at Rothwell lay within a now pasture field on the north side of the Glendon Road immediately east of Rothwell near Glendon Hill Farm. This field conatins the remains of a circular structure and a possible earthwork enclosure, but it is not known whether either of these date to the war.

Full Description

{1} The presence of a WWI Prisoner of War camp at an unidentified location in Rothwell was notified to Northamptonshire Heritage by Mr N. Nicol of Derby in 1997. According to local information provided by Mr Royall, the site lay in a pasture field (approximate centre at ngr SP82868120), on the north side of the Glendon road east of Rothwell.

Part of a ruinous stone or brick wall is evident in the northern part of the field at SP82898128, but it is unclear whether this may have been part of a former PoW camp. No other structures or visible remains were observed.
