Full Description

{1} A large bank of eleven lime kilns along the line of the railway to the north-east of Manor House Farm. The site could not be accessed during the current MPP assessment but appears to be very overgrown. Current condition and form not determined, recommended for further assessment work. The report attaches a high level of importance to these kilns.

{2} Located in dense undergrowth adjacent to the trackbed of the former London and North Western line from Seaton to Wansford. The remains of three limekilns are visible, two set into the railway embankment, the third is a free-standing brick-built kiln. There were originally at least nine kilns.

{3} Two kiln buildings are still shown on current OS mapping.

{4} The site was worked by Eldreds of Stamford from at least 1900.

[SMR note: the lime kilns are not shown on 1880s First Edition OS mapping, although three circular features are shown some 200m further to the east.]
