Full Description

{1} The field called Pottersgate is reported by the farmer to have had a stone track running across it (now ploughed out). Its direction seems to have been from Bulwick towards Harringworth Lodge and it could have a connection with this interesting fieldname. A few sherds, possibly of Stamford ware, have been found in the field.

{2} Possible medieval occupation within and north of the prehistoric enclosure (Mon 3055). The field is known as Pottersgate or Pottingate. Within it a stone trackway running north-west to south-east is said to have been ploughed up. A few sherds of medieval pottery, possibly Stamford Ware, have been found in the area. The fieldname may suggest the presence of pottery kilns though no additional evidence has been found for these.
